Washing Nappies:

  • Empty solids into the toilet if any.
  • Place nappy in nappy bucket using the dry pail method (no soaking nappies in water).
  • On wash day put the nappies in the washing machine using ¼ to ½ the recommended amount of detergent.
  • Pre rinse nappies with a pre rinse cycle or pre wash cycle if your machine has this function otherwise no biggie.
  • Wash nappies on either a cold, warm or hot wash with an extra rinse at the end.
  • Hang nappies out to dry either on the line, clothes horse or in front of the fire if you have one.
  • Nappies can by tumble dried on cool or warm, but be aware that the dryer will wear your nappies out quickly.  Where possible dry nappies naturally.

Tips and Hints:

Nappies leaking/wicking: If you find your nappies are not absorbing as well as they have done so, the fabrics may need stripping. (Sometimes a build up of detergent can occur from laundry detergent that may have not been rinsed properly) To strip you nappies of detergent build up, wash in warm or hot water with no detergent until there are no bubbles in the agitated water.

Smelly nappies: may be caused by the detergent that is used to wash your nappies with. If you are finding you have smelly nappies you could try using a different detergent or try washing your nappies with no detergent at all and line dry. Dettol Fresh or Canesten Rinse used in the rinse cycle is also great to help eliminate odors.

A note about Hemp, Bamboo and Microfibre:

Microfibre is a manmade fiber and is very absorbent, so it is recommended not to place microfibre boosters directly next to baby’s skin.

Hemp and Bamboo can absorb up to 4 times more than cotton on its own, and will reach its maximum absorbency after approximately 10 washes. If you find you have a leak when using new hemp or bamboo nappies, note that once the hemp or bamboo has reached its maximum absorbency this problem should be eliminated.

Some trouble shooting tips:

A good fit should ensure there are no leaks. If you are still having leaks although the nappy is a good fit, you may require extra boosting, some bubs are just power weers!

We want you to enjoy the benefits of using modern cloth nappies as much as we do, so please if you are still having any problems please don’t hesitate to contact us, we will be glad to help resolve any issues that may be occurring.

Woolen Covers:

Washing:

Baby BeeHinds wool covers only need washing every few weeks (provided they are not soiled and have been lanolised well enough).  In between uses wool covers can be hung to air dry until next use.  The lanolin in the wool neutralizes the urine, meaning your wool covers are self-cleaning.  You only need to wash your wool covers if they become soiled, stinky or dirty or when they need re-lanolising.

Baby BeeHinds wool covers are fully machine washable on a gentle cycle or woolen cycle inside a laundry or delicates bag using a wool wash.  Make sure the velcro is folded back onto the laundry tabs.  Use cold water to wash Baby BeeHinds wool covers in.  If you prefer, you can wash your wool covers by hand in warm water using a wool wash.  We have a range of wool wash and lanolin replenishing products on our site under woolcare.

Lanolising:

Spray Lanolin - Just spray onto both sides of your freshly clean wool cover and gently massage into the fibers. Allow your cover to drink it in. Once dry, your wool will function properly. You will need to wash your cover as needed and reapply. Can be sprayed onto clean damp or dry wool.

Liquid Lanolin - Add a teaspoon or less to warm water and swirl to distribute. Add your wool to the lanolin rich water. Soak your wool a minimum of 15 minutes or over night. Remove extra water from your wool by rolling it in a towel and then lay flat to air dry

Solid Lanolin - Add a teaspoon and a few drops of baby wash to very hot water and stir to combine. Add mixture to your wool soak water then immerse your wool item into the lanolin rich water. Soak your wool a minimum of 15 minutes or over night. Remove extra water from your wool by rolling it in a towel and then allow to dry.
